The East Bank youth baseball team based in River Ridge is the 2019 Little League World Champions.

The Louisiana team defeated a team from Curacao 8-0 to take the title yesterday afternoon, becoming the first team from the Pelican State to claim the honor.

East Bank had to win six straight games to become champs after losing the first game of the tournament and being sent to the elimination bracket.

Louisiana's Reece Roussel set a new Little League World Series record with 17 hits over the course of the competition including two hits in the championship game.

The President tweeted from the G7 summit in France that he would see the team in Washington as a response to Louisiana congressman Steve Scalise who first brought up the idea.
