Louisiana is not going to legalize sports betting this legislative session after a gambling bill was defeated yesterday.
The House Appropriations Committee voted 14-6 against the proposal put forward by state senator Danny Martiny to allow sports wagering.
Martiny blamed the bill's defeat on a series of objectionable amendments which had been added to his original measure and caused the loss of support from the state's casinos.
The Louisiana Senate supported the bill, saying residents are already betting on sports through offshore sites and that money is better kept and regulated inside the Bayou State.
